Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Lactation Consultant to join our team at Good Shepherd Health Care. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and managing patient, family, and staff education related to breastfeeding in accordance with our hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement educational programs for patients, families, and staff on breastfeeding and lactation management.
- Conduct breastfeeding assessments and provide individualized consultations to new mothers.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for breastfeeding mothers and their infants.
- Provide education and support to families on infant feeding and nutrition.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community resources and organizations to support breastfeeding families.
Requirements:
- Certification as a Lactation Educator from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of experience providing breastfeeding assessment, consultation, and information to new mothers.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and provide culturally sensitive care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
This position requires extensive periods of talking, walking, standing, bending, pushing, and some lifting of equipment. Work is performed on Unit A, Family Care, or clinic that provides services of OB, pediatric, and/or neonatal patients. Exposure to infections and contagious disease is possible. Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
