Job Overview

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammographic procedures on both inpatient and outpatient populations in accordance with established departmental protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Preparation: Review each prescription, history questionnaire, and patient record prior to examinations to ensure all relevant information is available for the radiologist's interpretation.
  • Radiologic Procedures: Conduct radiologic examinations with a high level of precision in positioning and technical factors.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to universal precautions and aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Patient Identification: Practice National Patient Safety Goals by obtaining a minimum of two patient identifiers for every patient.
  • Image Processing: Utilize the PAC system for processing images and ensure timely completion and verification of cases.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain daily cleanliness of work lists and monitor the Exceptions List for resolution.
  • Reporting Systems: Efficiently utilize the Breast reporting system, EMR, and PACS systems.
  • Image Analysis: Analyze acquired images for proper positioning, markers, date stickers, and appropriate labels.
  • Patient Interaction: Foster a respectful and responsive relationship with patients, addressing their physical and psychological needs.
  • Communication: Clearly explain all procedures to patients and communicate effectively with coordinators, supervisors, and vendors.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside Ultrasound departments to ensure a seamless patient flow.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform QA in accordance with MQSA guidelines and report any issues to Clinical Engineering and supervisors.
  • Training: Orient new employees and serve as a preceptor for procedures when requested.
  • Attendance: Exhibit a responsible attitude towards attendance and punctuality.
Job Requirements
  • Required Skills & Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in mammography.
  • Essential Competencies: Ability to perform screening and diagnostic mammography.
Additional Information
  • Preferred Skills & Experience: Experience with DEXA and biopsy procedures is advantageous.
