Join Powhatan County Public Schools as a skilled Mechanic (Garage) and contribute to the maintenance and repair of school buses, school board vehicles, county vehicles, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment, adhering to manufacturers' manuals and industry standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, utilizing computerized diagnostic equipment and technical expertise.
- Respond to emergency calls and provide timely repairs to ensure minimal disruption to school operations.
- Prepare detailed work orders, documenting time spent, parts used, and other relevant information.
- Conduct regular inspections of school vehicles, identifying and addressing any issues or defects.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor of Bus Garage Operations to prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments, attending training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License and CDL endorsement with a minimum of Class B and P & S endorsements.
- Virginia State Inspection certification or ability to acquire within one year of employment.
- ASE certification preferred, but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training.
The Mechanic (Garage) will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually loud, and the employee must be able to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
