Position Overview
Tonal is seeking a dedicated backend developer to collaborate across product, engineering, and design teams, playing a pivotal role in constructing the platform that supports the world's most advanced personal trainer.

Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of significant software projects for our backend services.
- These services are integral to our platform, powering personalized workout suggestions, dynamic media generation, and analytics derived from the most extensive fitness data set available.
- Work closely with our integrated software, hardware, and content teams to continually enhance our unique consumer fitness product.
- Collaborate with the product team to clarify requirements and design new features.
- Implement, test, deploy, and monitor software for our cloud-based backend microservices.
- Write and review clean, secure, and testable code with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and performance.
- Develop and support cloud-based big data pipelines.
- Utilize analytics to understand product behavior and drive data-informed decisions.
- Mentor and share knowledge with junior engineers.

Qualifications
- A self-motivated backend engineer with a proven track record of managing software projects from inception to completion in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of software development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently with minimal oversight.
- Extensive experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency in server-side software development using Golang or other languages (e.g., Rust, C++, C#, Java, Python).
- Strong understanding of database design and modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
- Experience with data-intensive applications, big data pipelines, and analytics tools such as Snowflake, DataBricks, Amplitude, and Looker.

Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and ArgoCD.
- Experience with Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and Airflow.
- Knowledge of Android development, Flutter, and Kotlin.
- Experience with Swift/SwiftUI.
- Background in working with remote teams.
- Familiarity with integrating payment systems like Stripe and messaging services like OneSignal.
- Interest in the fitness industry.
