Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team at Northstar Construction Services. As a key member of our preconstruction team, you will be responsible for leading the estimating process and providing accurate and detailed estimates for our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimating: Lead the estimating process, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of estimates for our construction projects.
  • Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present and determine scope of work.
  • Estimate Development: Develop full-scope estimates based on Bid-Build, Design-Build, or CM/GC construction documents.
  • Risk Analysis: Critically analyze bid documents, understand risk, opportunities, and articulate those to management.
  • Team Leadership: Organize the bid team, providing leadership and direction with regards to means and methods, schedule, and strategy.
  • Proposal Development: Participate in technical proposals for Alternative Delivery projects.
  • Quantity Takeoff: Provide detailed quantity takeoff of specific trades when required.
  • Crew and Production Cost Estimates: Create detailed crew and production cost estimates and review prices with estimating team.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Pricing: Solicits and analyzes subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
  • Project Site Meetings: Attend project site pre-bid meetings and post-bid interviews as required.
  • Unit Cost Identification: Identify accurate unit costs.
  • Technical Plan Review: Perform technical/plan review as required.
  • Takeoff Workload Assessment: Accurately assess and plan takeoff workload.
  • Cost Monitoring: Gather and monitor actual cost vs estimated cost and maintaining project historical value.
  • Subcontractor Database Management: Manage and maintain subcontractor database and subcontractor prequalification.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience in preconstruction/estimating and/or operations experience on commercial construction projects.
  • Knowledge: Knowledgeable of site construction, foundation and structural systems, miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, interior finishes, exterior building wall systems, mechanical and electrical systems, and the costs of these systems.
  • Software Skills: Knowledge and efficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD 3D, Takeoff Software.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills including the ability to use estimating software such as OnScreen Takeoff, spreadsheets, bid management, online plan rooms, and database applications and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
  • Communication Skills: Highly organized and proficient in written communication.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Resourceful and diligent in seeking solutions to problems and adapting to new situations.
