We are seeking a highly skilled Nurse Clinician to join our team at the University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, Division of Medical Genetics & Genomics. In this role, you will provide direct specialized nursing care for Pediatrics Genetics Clinics, collaborating with administrative, clinical nursing staff, physicians, patients, and families to facilitate changes in care based on systematic evaluation and evidence-based research.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate in the implementation of patient care plans and follow-up care coordination for patients within the Pediatrics Genetics clinics, particularly those with lysosomal storage disorders.
- Coordinate patient care with pre- and post-clinic planning and preparation, involving communication between multiple disciplines, including home health agencies, referring physicians, and other community services.
- Follow up with test results to patients, physicians, and outside agencies or services directly involved in patients' care plans, ensuring that test results are entered and results are scanned into EPIC.
- Conduct quality initiatives within the care setting, using judgment and expertise to apply/adopt information within the total clinical picture to address patient health issues.
- Compose letters to insurance companies for prior approvals required for testing and other services.
- Assist physicians and/or mid-level providers with clinic preparation, patient education, and care coordination for genetic clinics.
- Assist in the continued use of clinical trial and genetic registry databases, providing training to other support staff as needed.
- Perform other special projects and tasks as assigned.

Our multidisciplinary team includes board-certified medical geneticists, a molecular genetic pathologist, physician assistants, a nurse practitioner, genetic counselors, nurses, and a dietitian, providing the latest information and treatment options for Iowans and their families.
