Position Overview

The City of Hope Chicago is seeking a dedicated Travel Speech Language Pathologist to join our team in a hybrid inpatient/outpatient capacity. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional care to patients with oncology-related needs.

Certification Requirements
  • BLS Certification: Must be from AHA only (no HeartCode).
  • State SLP License: Must possess a valid state license.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide speech-language pathology services in a hybrid setting.
  • Work schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts during the day.
  • No on-call duties, floating, or weekend shifts required.
  • Focus on oncology patients, specifically those with head and neck conditions, including tracheostomy and laryngectomy care.
  • Manage a unit with a moderate pace, adapting to fluctuations in patient needs.
  • Conduct modified barium swallow studies as part of the assessment process.
  • Perform comprehensive evaluations and treatments related to cognitive, language, speech, and voice disorders.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience is required, with 5 years preferred.
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • Orientation will include approximately 80 hours, with 72 hours spent on the floor.
  • Uniform: Wine-colored scrubs (not provided).
  • Documentation will be managed through EPIC.
Qualifications
  • Experience with conditions such as Dysarthria, Dysphagia, and Tracheostomy.
  • Proficient in conducting and interpreting Modified Barium Swallow Studies.
  • Awareness of signs and symptoms of abuse in various forms.
  • Skills in patient and family education, assessment, discharge planning, and documentation.
  • Experience working with young, middle-aged, and older adult populations.
Additional Information
  • Government-issued photo ID is required.
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, CHEMO, Tech Cert, HIPAA, State License, NURSYS, Medication Test, and Competency Exam may be required based on the unit or specialty.
  • Compliance with facility-specific documentation for flu and COVID-19 exemptions is necessary.
  • Health documentation, including physical exams, immunizations, and drug testing, will be required.
