POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of all inpatient medication orders. This role includes overseeing and participating in the preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing of both inpatient and outpatient medications, including chemotherapy treatments.
Additionally, the pharmacist will provide clear and accurate medication information to healthcare professionals and patients alike. The position requires leadership skills to effectively manage emergency situations and adherence to pharmacy policies in compliance with hospital regulations and state and federal laws.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy and a licensed pharmacist in California.
2. Minimum of one year of recent hospital experience or a recent graduate (within two years) from an accredited pharmacy program.
3. Knowledge of IV admixture procedures, medication dosing, and substitution recommendations, along with a foundational understanding of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology.
4. Strong time management skills and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
5. Familiarity with handling hazardous medications, including chemotherapeutics.
6. Eagerness to learn and adapt quickly.
7. Capability to work routine 10-hour shifts and be available for on-call duties. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively under stress.
