Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Codman Academy Charter School. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional education support services to our students with diverse learning needs.

About the Role

  • Implement school-wide procedures to maintain a culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations.
  • Develop and track IEP goals for students, working closely with classroom teachers to provide rigorous instruction and assessments.
  • Serve as a direct service provider for approximately 15-20 students, using data to inform instruction and drive student learning gains.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and families, promoting a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge - Demonstrate subject area expertise and a deep understanding of child development and how students learn.
  • Standards - Develop a comprehensive game plan for the year, aligned with state standards and assessments.
  • Units - Plan lessons backwards, aligned with high standards, state assessments, and Bloom's levels; document and share all lessons with the supervisor two weeks in advance.
  • Assessments - Design diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to closely monitor student learning.
  • Anticipation - Anticipate students' misconceptions and confusions, developing multiple strategies to overcome them.
  • Lessions - Design lessons with clear, measurable goals, closely aligned with standards and expedition outcomes.
  • Engagement - Design highly relevant lessons that motivate all students and engage them in active learning.
  • Materilas - Design lessons that use an effective mix of high-quality, multicultural learning materials and technology.
  • Differentiation - Design lessons that break down complex tasks and address all learning needs, styles, and interests.
  • Environment - Artfully use room arrangement, materials, and displays to maximize student learning of all material, focusing on learning targets and student work.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Special Education or related field, with a valid Massachusetts license in Moderate Disabilities for the grade level applying.
  • Experience in special education, preferably in an urban setting.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, curriculum design, and instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
