Job Overview

Position Title: Water Treatment Certified Operator

Position Summary:

This full-time position is eligible for union membership and involves providing mechanical upkeep for operational machinery at the Water Treatment Facility. Responsibilities include general maintenance of transportation networks within the Municipal Watershed, which encompasses roads and trails, as well as engaging in land and timber management tasks. The role also entails conducting inspections and maintenance of dams, performing stream and soil sampling, and overseeing the operational shifts of the water treatment facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct water quality assessments and analyses.
  • Lead seasonal staff at the plant and within the watershed.
  • Maintain buildings and ensure proper reporting, both written and verbal.
  • Execute laboratory and operational tasks as a Certified Water Treatment Operator in a Class 4 conventional water treatment facility.
  • Adapt to rotating shifts as necessary to cover for absent Shift Operators.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding of:

  • Basic chemistry, hydraulics, and algebra relevant to the operation of a Class IV Water Treatment Plant.
  • Timber harvesting principles, land management, trail design, and environmental assessments related to Watershed Management.
  • Water quality sampling techniques and management issues.
  • Outdoor operational challenges, including winter survival strategies.

Experience and Training:

Applicants should have a combination of education and experience that equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills for this role. Progression towards a Level 4 Water Treatment Certification is expected.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years in an Oregon Class 2 or higher water treatment facility, including laboratory testing and mechanical operations.

Preferred qualifications include an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Water Treatment Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related environmental field, along with additional training in mechanical operations for water treatment equipment.

Certifications:

A valid driver’s license is required upon hire. Candidates should possess at least an Oregon Class II Water Treatment Certification and Filtration Endorsement or an equivalent certification, with the capability to qualify for a WT 4 exam within six years.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is between $59,741.73 and $80,499.28, depending on qualifications and experience. New hires without current certification may start at a lower range.
