Job Title: High School Counselor

Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated High School Counselor to support our senior students as they transition from high school to their post-secondary paths.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized and group counseling to senior students on academic, career, and personal issues.
  • Support and assist with college and career planning, including college applications, scholarships, financial aid, and job readiness.
  • Develop and present workshops and seminars on topics such as college selection, application essay writing, financial aid, and career exploration.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to monitor student progress and implement strategies to ensure academic success.
  • Guide students in course selection and graduation requirements, ensuring they meet all necessary qualifications.
  • Address and provide support for social and emotional challenges faced by students, connecting them with resources as needed.
  • Organize college fairs, visits, and information sessions to support students in exploring their post-secondary options.
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, student progress, and interventions.
  • Stay informed about trends in college admissions, career pathways, and best practices in high school counseling.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school environment that fosters the success of all students.
  • Assist in the preparation of written reports that are required by the local school system and/or the Missouri Education Agency.
  • Assist in helping students better understand themselves, their community, and their parents.
  • Work toward improving morale and aid in teaching by helping teachers know and better understand students.
  • Assist students in learning to make wise decisions that will affect their future.
  • Assist in the arrangement of teacher-parent conferences and assist parents in understanding their children's aptitudes, abilities, interests, attitudes, and development as related to educational planning and growth.
  • Assist students with social and academic problems, such as excessive absences, failing grades, delinquency, disciplinary reports, and drug and health problems.
  • Assist in orientation programs.
  • Be responsible for classroom guidance activities.
  • Participate in admissions, review, and dismissal (ARD) meetings when appropriate.
  • Participate in the development of standardized testing programs.
  • Coordinate the administration of standardized tests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or building principal.
Requirements:
  • Mastery of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in decision-making.
Experience and Education:
  • Master's degree in guidance and counseling.
  • A valid Missouri counseling certificate.
  • Three years' experience.

Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs., such as lifting files and paper.
