Job Summary

The Part-time Specialist IV, Reference Assistant is a key member of the library team, providing essential support to patrons and librarians alike. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, navigating complex information systems, and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide reference assistance to library users, utilizing print and digital resources to answer questions and resolve issues.
  • Assist patrons with online catalog navigation, electronic database access, and other digital tools.
  • Offer directional guidance to help users locate materials and resources.
  • Respond to telephone, chat, and text reference inquiries, referring users to relevant resources as needed.
  • Support patrons with equipment usage, software applications, and digital media access.
  • Participate in library programming, including computer workshops, story times, crafts, book clubs, and seminars.
  • Maintain the reference area's photocopier and printers, ensuring optimal functionality and reporting technical issues to the Office of Technology Services.
  • Assist with material checkout and other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products and basic/common technology.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good problem-solving abilities and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
