Job Summary

This position oversees the operations of General Stores, supervising employees and representing the department through campus leadership. The General Stores is a self-supporting department providing laboratory supplies for educational instruction and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with vendors to ensure best pricing and availability of items.
  • Oversee the ordering of chemicals, reagents, and medical supplies for teaching and research.
  • Establish reorder points and quantities, and review requisitions to determine items to stock or discontinue.
  • Practice first-in first-out stock management to minimize expiration of products.
  • Ensure the Surplus Coordinator disposes of furniture, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with UT policies and UTHSC procedures.
  • Collaborate with finance personnel to ensure correct accounts are charged and resolves billing issues.
  • Manage employees, assign job responsibilities, and complete employee evaluations.
  • Evaluate productivity, revise procedures, or devise new procedures to improve workflow.
  • Verify and reconcile monthly p-card statements, and review and approve invoices for payment.
  • Perform audits, checks, and reviews of all financial aspects of the operations.
  • Resolve employee and customer problems and complaints.
  • Manage biannual onsite pipette calibration services for labs across campus.
  • Promote General Stores on campus and increase awareness of presence, goods, and services available.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: Five (5) years of direct or relief supervision, customer service, familiarity with scientific supplies/equipment, computer hardware/software, and/or accounting/business experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Strong leadership skills.
