Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Electrical Technician to join our team at Trane Technologies. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for building custom engineered HVAC equipment in a shop environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build custom equipment on assigned projects, utilizing equipment construction skills and knowledge of acceptable wiring practices and build standards.
  • Read and wire HVAC equipment according to engineering drawings, utilizing a variety of hand tools and interpreting schematics, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Fabricate steel parts as needed to support components, and fabricate sheet metal panels and brackets to create a finished product.
  • Ensure all work functions are performed in accordance with electrical standards, build standards, and wiring practices and codes.
  • Complete assembly and wiring assignments on time, with high quality, and within budget.
  • Assist team members of other trades as needed, and perform other trade work when required.
  • Prepare for assigned projects by examining project binders, consulting with the project manager and other technicians, and anticipating difficulties.
  • Maintain tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear and performing periodic maintenance.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and organized manner.
  • Document work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, quality check sheets, and parts logs.
  • Effectively work with purchasing and stocking personnel, and return unused resources.
  • Identify parts to order for construction, testing, and repair of equipment.
  • Assist with general office and shop initiatives as needed, helping to improve the business while controlling expenses and increasing income.
  • Work closely with other project technicians, temporary technicians, subcontractors, project managers, project engineers, trade team leaders, production shop supervisor, and interns in a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and teammates regarding issues of project scope and schedule.
  • Attend, contribute to, and/or lead meetings with team members, salesmen, customers, and management as needed.
  • Follow company standards for construction and quality.
  • Follow company safety policies.
  • Promote company safety policies to team members and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support, service, or training at customer site when needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work in other company departments when needed.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel with occasional overnight stays.
  • Participate and communicate new ideas and initiatives with the Electrical trade team.
  • Has a clear understanding of our company's Code of Ethics and Compliance and promotes our company's culture.
  • Understands companies rules and policies and follows all that apply.
Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Two (2) years HVAC Electrical experience preferred performing all required electrical functions. Knowledge of National Electrical codes as they apply to our business. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver's license, Electrical Journeyman license issued by the state of MI preferred but not required, EPA Certification Preferred.

This position requires working mainly in a typical semi-conditioned shop environment and occasionally in a typical conditioned office environment. The noise level in the shop environment is usually loud. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job required in the shop, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, risk of electrical shock (high voltage), and fumes or airborne particles created by welding, grinding, and painting activities. Occasionally, working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, in extreme weather conditions, and in areas with vibration is possible. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and high, precarious places.
