Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our team at the Whatcom Family YMCA. As a key member of our early childhood education program, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and engaging environment for young children to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Care for Children: Provide a safe and supportive environment for children, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Implement Educational Programs: Develop and implement age-appropriate educational activities that promote social-emotional development, cognitive growth, and physical activity.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work closely with lead teachers and other staff members to create a cohesive and effective learning environment.
  • Communicate with Parents: Maintain open and regular communication with parents and caregivers to ensure a smooth transition between home and school.
  • Maintain a Safe and Healthy Environment: Ensure the classroom and playground areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Certifications and Training: Current CPR (Adult, Infant & Child) and First Aid, AED certifications; complete Praesidium Child Abuse prevention training within 15 days of hire; STARS 30 Hour Childcare Basic Training (must be completed within 3 months of hire date).
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to develop positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
