Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist is a vital member of our healthcare team, providing individualized patient care that assesses and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. This role requires a strong foundation in evaluating referred patients, establishing patient and family-centered goals, and developing and executing treatment plans to promote or maximize independence in the discharged setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide initial evaluations and re-evaluations of patients' status related to speech, language, social, and cognitive communication, voice, fluency, and/or swallowing consistent with physician referral.
  • Perform evaluations consisting of a review of patients' medical, surgical, and social history.
  • Interpretation of appropriate formal and informal tests in areas such as motor speech, verbal expression, written expression, voice and resonance, auditory comprehension, reading comprehension, hearing as it impacts speech and language, swallow function, non-verbal communication, orientation, attention, problem-solving, and reasoning.
  • Create customized plans of care that coordinate therapist and patient and family-directed goals to obtain achievable outcomes for prevention, intervention, and sustainable wellness over the patient's lifespan.
  • Implement and progress evidence-based therapy interventions consistent with established and modified goals and plans of care according to patients' response to treatment.
  • Utilize and supervise support staff as available and appropriate.
  • Develop and coordinate an integrated discharge plan that includes recommendations specific to patients' needs with other healthcare providers.
  • Consult with peers regarding patient care and provide formal or informal mentoring to more experienced and specialty therapists.
  • Maintain educational requirements by providing and attending in-services and staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Assess patients' educational needs, address any patient barriers to understanding or learning, and involve patients, family, and/or caregivers in the entire therapy experience per patients' preference.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other healthcare team members to promote optimal benefit from therapy and quality care.
  • Perform medically necessary documentation consisting of initial evaluations, re-evaluations, daily notes, plans of care with associated certification dates, physician letters, insurance authorizations, and discharge notes that provide evidence of skilled care according to professional, departmental, and payor standards.
  • Fulfill administrative duties associated with patient care, including scheduling assistance, follow-through with patient attendance, compliance with accurate and timely charging practices, assurance of appropriate referral and diagnostic coding, utilization of only medically necessary services and number of visits, compliance with insurance authorizations and tracking of insurance limitations, participation in peer reviews, performance and process improvement projects, program development, community events, and any other related activities.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
  • Experience in adult/children neurological speech and language disorders, evaluation, and treatment, including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering, and voice disorders.
  • Experience with head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, cognition, TBI, dementia, and modified barium swallow studies.
  • Clinical Competency in Audiology Certification (CCC-A) or at least one License and/or Certification in area of specialty.
Work Environment

This role is part-time, working 27 hours per week, with a regular schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The work environment is a dynamic and collaborative setting, with opportunities for professional growth and development.
