Position Overview

The role of the Horticulturist is vital for the upkeep and nurturing of the mosaic collection within the Garden.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the routine maintenance of the Mosai culture sculptures.
  • Conduct plug transplantation as necessary.
  • Perform shearing and plant upkeep to enhance the visual appeal and design of each sculpture.
  • Act as a horticultural resource for the Garden.
  • Assist in the creation of seasonal displays.
  • Engage in special projects as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to sustain moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Competence in using ladders and lifts.
  • Prior experience with hand tools and equipment is advantageous.
  • Experience in public interaction is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.

Educational Background

An Associate's Degree in horticulture, botany, or a related discipline, or two years of practical gardening experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to consistently perform moderate physical exertion, including lifting up to 40 pounds unassisted and moving large items.
  • Capability to operate hand and power gardening tools.
  • Proficiency in operating a tractor, forklift, and chainsaw.
  • Physical stamina to work in both hot and cold environments.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Mental Requirements

  • Ability to effectively manage and respond to multiple, changing, and often conflicting priorities.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with the public, along with basic computer literacy.
