About the Role:

As an Acute Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) with Fresenius Medical Care, you will provide essential support to patients in a hospital environment, collaborating within a network of local healthcare facilities.

Your leadership capabilities and autonomy will be crucial as you administer and evaluate each patient's individualized treatment plan in a dynamic setting, working independently alongside the inpatient teams in ICU, CCU, and ED units.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


As a vital member of the nephrology healthcare team, you will engage in decision-making, educational initiatives, leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts that enhance patient care outcomes in the inpatient setting.

You will ensure safe and effective patient care while performing all essential functions of an Acute RN under supervision.

Responsibilities include:
  • Documenting and entering patient data before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
  • Monitoring and identifying changes in patient status and adjusting treatment plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Communicating with dialysis providers and hospital personnel to ensure continuity of care.
  • Administering medications as prescribed and in accordance with established agreements.
  • Ensuring nephrology physician orders for assigned patients are accurately recorded in the medical record.
  • Familiarizing yourself with both Fresenius Medical Care and hospital emergency protocols and assisting with emergency response measures.
  • Delegating appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff and monitoring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Promoting infection control and safety in the healthcare environment.
  • Providing education to patients and their families.
  • Coaching hospital staff on specialized care related to renal replacement and apheresis therapies as needed.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to update care plans for assigned patients.
  • Participating in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Serving as a resource for the healthcare team and assisting in the training of new staff.
  • Providing support in outpatient facilities as required.

All duties and responsibilities are expected to be performed in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care and applicable service policies, standards of nursing practice, and regulations.

Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance within the program.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Current appropriate state licensure.

Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.

Must meet the practice requirements in the state of employment.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

Minimum of 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse (preferred but not mandatory).

Experience in hemodialysis and/or ICU (preferred but not mandatory).

Minimum of 6 months nephrology experience required before working independently and/or being on-call.

Successful completion of Ishihara's Color Blindness Test.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position involves direct patient care that may require heavy lifting and moving of patients, as well as assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance.

This role requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing, and the employee must be able to bend over.


Employees may occasionally need to move, with assistance, machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs., and may lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 lbs.

The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels.

Exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials may occur.

Employees may be required to perform essential functions in various locations with similar physical demands and working conditions.

Daily responsibilities include desk work, computer tasks, and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians.

This position may require travel between assigned facilities and various community locations, as well as attendance at regional meetings.

Participation in on-call rotation is required (nights, weekends, or as defined by program needs).
