The Certified Surgical Technician plays a vital role in the operating room, assisting in the performance of routine and delegated functions under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. This position requires knowledge and expertise in operating room technology, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment.
Responsibilities- Apply principles and practices of asepsis, performing surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures.
- Set up sterile instrument tables and prepare supplies according to the type of operation.
- Assist in draping the patient and operative area, anticipating the needs of the surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
- Maintain correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse and report discrepancies according to established policy and procedure.
- Monitor aseptic technique at all times, instituting corrective measures in the event of contamination.
- Assist in the care, handling, and disposition of specimens, as well as the application of dressings and securing drainage systems.
- Participate in the maintenance of quotas for current dates of sterile supplies and equipment in the operating rooms and storage areas.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from a Certified CST Training Program.
- Certification in Operating Room Technology required.
- Prefer experience in an operating room setting.
