Job Overview

This pivotal role serves as the initial point of contact for the County, emphasizing the importance of exceptional customer service abilities. Responsibilities encompass a variety of financial and bookkeeping tasks, ensuring adherence to local tax regulations and maintaining accurate records. The position requires assisting taxpayers in understanding and complying with state laws and requirements. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
  • Exhibits professionalism and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Manages online return files daily, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Handles accounts receivable functions, including posting and reconciliation.
  • Provides assistance to taxpayers via phone, email, and in-person regarding tax compliance inquiries, exercising sound judgment in communications.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation such as applications, tax returns, and correspondence.
  • Prepares monthly invoices and end-of-month revenue reports for review.
  • Conducts daily deposit preparations and tax return batches.
  • Performs bank reconciliations for the department.
  • Collaborates with County accounting staff to ensure compliance with state audit standards.
  • Adapts to changing conditions, including fluctuations in transaction volumes and workflows.
  • Sets up tobacco vendors in accordance with state regulations.
  • Assists with month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
  • Handles administrative tasks, including typing, answering calls, filing, and ordering supplies.
  • Processes incoming mail and verifies tax amounts.
  • Prepares daily balance reports and reconciles tax payments for accuracy.
  • Generates and mails tax returns, delinquency notices, and tobacco stamps.
  • Maintains records of tax audits and payment plans.
  • Opens new tax accounts and manages bankruptcy records.
  • Prepares monthly tax status reports and maintains tobacco stamp records.
  • Updates departmental tax forms for public access.
  • Recommends policies to enhance service quality.
  • Works with tax compliance officers to process invoices for delinquent accounts.
  • Engages in ongoing education to achieve Certified County Revenue Officer (CCRO) certification.
  • Ensures all duties are performed safely and efficiently.
  • Completes other assigned tasks as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by coursework in accounting/bookkeeping.
  • Two years of experience in fund accounting/bookkeeping.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including more than 40 hours per week.
  • Bonding may be required.
  • Ability to perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Certification as a County Revenue Officer (CCRO).

Working Conditions
Work is primarily sedentary, involving significant sitting, walking, and occasional lifting of items weighing less than 25 pounds.
