Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic guidance and support to students, connecting them with relevant university resources, and communicating important information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group advising sessions to help students achieve their academic goals
  • Review semester grades and initiate outreach to students who are at risk of academic failure
  • Teach first-year experience or transition courses to help students adjust to university life
  • Work with new student and transfer orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for students
  • Support advising and retention initiatives to help students succeed
  • Meet with continuing, returning, and CCP students to provide guidance and support
  • Act as a resource for faculty and other professional advisors
  • Serve on committees and working groups to contribute to the development of academic advising initiatives

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, earned by start date
  • Experience in a university or college setting, preferably in academic advising or a related field
  • Strong understanding of higher education retention, advising, and student development theory
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team and effectively communicate with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively to provide student retention outreach
  • Experience with tools such as Banner, uAchieve, Student Success Collaborative, WorkDay, Oracle Business Intelligence, and Transferology.Com

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse students, including underrepresented minorities, international, and first-generation students
  • Understanding of the purpose of a liberal arts education and excellent communication skills
  • Experience with student success initiatives and higher education retention theory
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
