Job Summary:

Highmark Health is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative. You will analyze results, identify issues with image quality, and take appropriate action to resolve them. You will also enter, transmit, and report scan results, review patient history and physician's orders, and educate patients regarding procedures and equipment. Additionally, you will prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within your scope of practice, monitor patient condition, and report/respond to changes in status as appropriate. You will also prepare equipment and supplies, select appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters, and implement safety standards and perform quality control procedures on equipment. Responsibilities:

Positions patients and performs imaging procedures

Analyzes results and identifies issues with image quality

Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues

Enters, transmits, and reports scan results

Reviews patient history and physician's orders

Educates patients regarding procedures and equipment

Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice

Monitors patient condition and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate

Prepares equipment and supplies

Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters

Implements safety standards and performs quality control procedures on equipment

Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school

Six months to one year of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of associate's degree

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Sonography-RT(S) or Vascular Sonography- RT(VS) certification and registration via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Breast (BS) via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) earned prior to 2011 or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required within 12 months of hire

Technologists who have been performing ultrasound prior to and continuously since October 1996 AND have been evaluated by a responsible physician to assure competence are not required to obtain certification

Employees in an Ultrasound role prior to July 1, 2022 who do not have certifications are not required to obtain them

CPR – American Heart Association

Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate

Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior sonography experience
