ICU Charge Nurse

Shepherd Center, a leading private, not-for-profit hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a skilled and compassionate ICU Charge Nurse to join our team. Our mission is to provide exceptional medical treatment, research, and rehabilitation services for individuals with spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spine, and chronic pain, as well as other neuromuscular conditions.
As a Charge Nurse at Shepherd Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality patient care, outcomes, nursing research, and evidence-based practice. You will work collaboratively with our transdisciplinary healthcare team to achieve quality outcomes and contribute to building a strong environment that facilitates collaboration and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
- Support professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and families.
- Function within the nursing care model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
- Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
- Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources.
- Communicate patient care, departmental issues, and staff concerns to the appropriate leaders.
- Serve as a resource for guidance and assistance to staff.
- Collaborate and support the plan of care as established by the interdisciplinary team and prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Perform consistently with Shepherd Center standards, clinical policies, and procedures.
- Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in center-wide efforts that affect nursing practice.
- Adhere to patient/family-centered principles using the communication and engagement tools (OARS/AIDECT).
- May participate on committees or projects.
Requirements:
- BSN from an accredited school of nursing is preferred.
- BLS required.
- ACLS required within twelve months of start date.
- Active Georgia RN license or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
- Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) certification or Critical Care Registered Nurse (AACN) certification required after three years from date of hire.
- AACN Essentials of Critical Care Orientation Certification required within one year from date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with patients with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and/or behavioral health preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Normal patient care environment.
- Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Some potential exposure to infectious viruses.
