The UNC Pediatric General Surgery team is in search of an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to cover weekend shifts from 7am to 7pm. Key responsibilities include patient rounds with the Pediatric General Surgery team, assisting in surgical procedures, admitting new patients, managing ongoing care for patients on the Pediatric General Surgery service, conducting consultations, and addressing patient inquiries. The APP will also collaborate with the house staff team for the Pediatric Surgery service during these shifts.

Position Overview:
An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) operates as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, delivering high-quality, cost-effective care within the APP's scope of practice, in partnership with a supervising physician. The APP embodies the mission, vision, and values of the organization, adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical:
- Gather comprehensive health and medical histories, perform detailed physical assessments, and interpret relevant diagnostic tests/results.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and implement treatment plans, including prescribing evidence-based pharmacological agents as per departmental guidelines.
- Conduct preventive health screenings tailored to patient needs and maintain clear, concise records of all patient interactions.
- Stay informed on general disease processes and specialty literature to ensure accurate diagnoses and effective patient care.

2. Education:
- Provide professional education to patients and families regarding medical conditions, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to promote continuity of care and develop educational resources for staff and students.
- Engage in self-directed learning and attend educational programs to enhance clinical knowledge.

3. Leadership:
- Mentor and instruct healthcare team members, including physicians and nursing staff, through various educational methods.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives and lead programs to enhance community health.
- Apply knowledge of healthcare systems to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.

4. Professionalism:
- Maintain respectful and timely interactions with patients and families, ensuring effective communication.
- Collaborate respectfully with team members to meet patient care needs and resolve issues promptly.
- Share responsibility for the overall workload with colleagues.

5. Quality/Research:
- Engage in continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements.
- Collaborate with management to assess and address clinical and system issues.
- Lead interdisciplinary teams to provide integrated patient care services and develop new clinical programs to enhance care delivery.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Must be licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Nurse Midwife) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification as required by the department is preferred.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- No prior experience is necessary, though previous first assistant experience is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:
- Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on ensuring successful patient care documentation.
