Job Title: Substitute Speech and Language Pathologist

Sage Oak Charter Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Substitute Speech and Language Pathologist to join our team. As a Substitute Speech and Language Pathologist, you will provide specialized instruction and services for students who have speech and language disorders.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Special Education Program Specialist or designee, the Substitute Speech and Language Pathologist will assess and participate in individualized education program (IEP) meetings, consult with IEP team members, and participate in the MTSS/SST process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultation to staff and parents regarding typical speech and language development
  • Provide a systematic, multi-tiered pre-referral consultation and/or intervention
  • Complete thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and eligibility re-evaluations that comply with school, state, and federal guidelines and develop legally compliant assessment reports and IEPs
  • Use comprehensive assessment results in developing an appropriate IEPs
  • Participate as a member of the IEP team to develop IEP goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, and instructional plans; implement and monitor the IEP
  • Provide direct speech and language services both individually and in small groups and other special education support to students whose needs have been identified in an IEP
  • Assist in coordinating the implementation of goals and objectives with the IEP team to provide integrated services
  • Monitor student progress toward goals by collecting and maintaining data on goals and objectives
  • Conduct quarterly IEP reviews to ensure compliance in all areas
  • Provide in-service trainings for staff and parents as requested
  • Attend monthly meetings with the Special Education department
  • Collaborate with the special education administrative team and make suggestions toward the future development of speech and language services throughout all school programs
  • Participate in meetings at the general education level to assist in developing appropriate interventions and goals for students at various tiers of the MTSS/SST process
  • Services students in-home, if necessary
  • Proctoring duties as needed during the testing season
Other Duties:
  • Responds to all school-related communication within 24 business hours
  • Documents and refers to the school's management all formal disciplinary actions involving students; supporting management with addressing and resolving complaints from students and parents in a timely manner; ensuring compliance with the provisions of California Penal Code Section Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

Possess appropriate speech and language license by the State Department and specialist credential

Minimum of two years or more successful experience preferred in speech and language practice within a public school setting, including practice in assessment and therapy skills appropriate for the needs of a varied student population

Other Qualifications:

State and federal fingerprint clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Ed. Code No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance

Proof of a clear TB Tine test dated within the last 60 days (Ed. Code upon employment and thereafter updated every four years

Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act

Hold and maintain a valid California Driver's License; proof of automobile insurance; and full-time use of a dependable automobile that is insured pursuant to California regulations

Knowledge:

Computer and technology literacy: Operate office equipment including a calculator, copier, fax machine, computer, and assigned software

Google docs, Google spreadsheets, and other online collaboration tools to send and receive information

Basic arithmetic calculations

Principles and methods of speech and language therapeutic techniques

Theory of physical and mental rehabilitation underlying the practices of speech and language therapy

Objectives of speech and language therapy treatment and services; principles of consultation, training, and supervision

Knowledge of special education laws and mandates at the federal and state levels

Skills:

Conflict resolution

Record-keeping techniques

Methods of collecting and organizing data and information

Explain and provide training on speech and language skills and rehabilitative principles; provide direction to assigned staff

Identify and analyze areas of developmental speech and language dysfunction

Develop and provide treatment plans, goals, and objectives to correct speech and language dysfunction
