Highway Design Engineering Team Lead

We are seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Project Manager to lead our Highway Design Engineering Team in Richmond, VA.
As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of talented engineers and designers in the successful execution of highway and roadway projects.
The ideal candidate will possess a current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, extensive experience in highway design, and a proven track record of managing large DOT programs and projects.
In addition to technical expertise, the candidate should have exceptional leadership skills, business acumen, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of highway design engineers and designers in the planning, design, and execution of complex transportation projects
- Oversee the delivery of projects in compliance with highway design standards, regulations, and client requirements
- Leverage your experience with MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoad Designer, Civil 3D, and other design software to provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team
- Direct and guide the team in preparing detailed design plans, alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and other project documentation
- Take a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges and ensuring the implementation of innovative and sustainable solutions
- Manage and coordinate sub-contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders to ensure project goals are met within budget and on schedule
- Lead business development efforts by identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and presenting solutions to clients
- Utilize your strong communication skills to maintain effective client relationships, understand their needs, and provide responsive and innovative solutions
- Oversee the preparation of technical reports, feasibility studies, and design calculations to support project proposals and submissions
- Provide executive-level updates to senior management on project progress, risks, and opportunities
- Cultivate a collaborative and innovative team culture, fostering professional growth and development among team members
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry best practices throughout all project phases
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited institution. Master's degree is a plus
- Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in civil engineering
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in highway and roadway design, with a significant focus on managing VDOT programs and projects
- Proficiency in MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoad Designer, Civil 3D, and other relevant design software
- Deep understanding of highway design standards, regulations, and guidelines
- Proven track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and managing sub-contractors
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members
- Strong business development skills, including client engagement, proposal development, and solution presentation
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction, team coordination, and senior management reporting
- Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and making critical decisions under pressure
- Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively
