Job Summary:
Vets Pets is seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Animal Care Specialist to join our fast-paced emergency department. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care for critically ill hospitalized patients, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and performing diagnostic tests.
- Participate in nurse rounds to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
- Triage incoming patients presenting with emergency conditions, assessing their stability and obtaining vital signs.
- Perform diagnostics, including laboratory testing and digital radiography, and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients.
- Monitor patients' status, recognizing changes and taking appropriate action.
- Place peripheral and central catheters, perform venipuncture, and restrain patients for exams and treatments.
- Administer IV and SQ fluids, medications, and other treatments as prescribed.
- Communicate with clients, providing education and support throughout the patient's care journey.
- Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients and perform basic wound cleaning and care.
- Prepare patients for anesthetized procedures, administer anesthesia, and monitor patients during recovery.
Requirements:
- Experience working in an emergency veterinary setting, with a strong understanding of hospital treatment plans and patient care protocols.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and multiple software platforms, including EzyVet.
- Strong judgment and ability to work independently, with a focus on providing high-quality patient care.
