Phlebotomy Specialist Job Description

Mayo Clinic is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for obtaining high-quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods for all age groups.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect blood samples using venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections
  • Provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals
  • Accurately identify patients, label, handle, and transport specimens
  • Answer phones and assist with training students and new employees
Requirements:
  • Phlebotomy certification from an approved laboratory certification agency
  • Valid phlebotomy certification from an approved agency such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Health Career Association (NHA), or the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency such as the American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
