About the Job

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy client care environment by ensuring assigned areas are kept in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly manner.

They advise their supervisor on environmental services equipment needs and repairs, and ensure that infectious waste and confidential disposal contractors perform as scheduled.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform specific cleaning and custodial tasks in the general upkeep, sanitation, and cleanliness of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing of fixtures, general straightening, and cleaning of bathrooms.
  • Clean facility rooms, baths, laboratories, offices, and halls, utilizing buffers, scrubbers, sweepers, and carpet cleaning equipment as necessary.
  • Wash bed frames, brush mattresses, and remake beds after discharge of clients, when applicable.
  • Keep utility and storage rooms in neat and orderly conditions.
  • Operate commercial washers and dryers, and launder soiled linens as directed.
  • Attend to infection control standards, transport soiled linen to storage areas, and distribute laundered articles and items.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors, working with careful attention to slips/fall risks during and after cleaning floors.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies, dust furniture and equipment.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empty wastebaskets, transport trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Disinfect rooms, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and supplies, using appropriate processes and germicides for cleaning equipment.
  • Conduct daily checks of cleaning carts and linen supply closets to determine inventory of supplies, and maintain adequate cleaning supplies for department/unit use.
  • Properly clean and store all equipment and supplies after each shift.
  • Practice standard/universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines, including instructions upon MSDS for materials encountered during task completion.
  • Prepare rooms for meetings and arrange decorations and furniture for facility functions.
  • High school graduate or equivalent is preferred, and previous experience in housekeeping in a commercial, clinical, or healthcare environment is also preferred.
