**Part-time Ombudsman - Long Term Care Patient Advocate - Onsite in facilities with some remote work throughout the East Texas Region**
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long-Term Care Ombudsman to join our team at the East Texas Council of Governments. As a vital resource for residents in nursing homes, assisted living, and foster care facilities across East Texas, you will provide confidential support to residents and their families, helping resolve concerns and ensuring their rights are protected.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Investigate complaints and provide valuable information and referrals to residents and their families.
- Build strong relationships with professionals in the long-term care system to ensure residents receive the best possible care.
- Deliver educational in-services to facilities and community groups to enhance the quality of life for individuals in care.
- Assist in training and supporting a team of certified volunteer ombudsmen.
- Participate in special state assignments and projects to enhance the quality of life for individuals in care.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's Degree in public administration, gerontology, sociology, psychology, or long-term care administration is preferred.
- Three years of experience in social service programs, communication skills, casework, complaint resolution, and interventions required.
- Prior experience with the elderly population is a plus.
- Must become a certified ombudsman before fully participating in this position.
