The **Quality Engineering Lead** (Hardware and Process) will play a crucial role in formulating and executing a comprehensive quality assurance strategy, ensuring optimal reliability in our lunar rover initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the hardware non-conformance management process and its practical application on the production floor.
  • Establish inspection protocols and procedures for incoming materials, ongoing projects, and final assessments to guarantee quality throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Train and develop quality inspectors to uphold rigorous standards.
  • Manage the Material Review Board process, focusing on continuous enhancement and implementation.
  • Develop and enforce metrology and calibration standards, including training and maintenance of calibrated instruments.
  • Promote ongoing improvements in Astrolab's FOD and ESD programs through effective training.
  • Contribute to Design for Quality (DfX) from the initial concept through various design reviews (DCR, PDR, CDR).
Support Areas:
  • Maintain AS9100 certification.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for problem-solving.
  • Implement supplier quality audit processes, including on-site inspections.
  • Manage quality data and documentation.
  • Develop internal design, construction, and verification specifications.
  • Provide training on configuration management and traceability.
  • Establish build and testing standards and processes.
  • Participate in hands-on assembly and inspection of flight hardware.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline; a master's degree or relevant certifications are advantageous.
  • Over 5 years of experience in spaceflight programs, preferably with NASA.
  • More than 5 years of experience in build reliability, quality assurance, or quality control, with a focus on mechanisms, avionics, and vehicle integration.
  • Expertise in root cause analysis throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Thorough understanding of industry and NASA mechanical and avionics standards.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing, geometric dimensioning, and inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
  • High proficiency in JIRA, MES software, and Excel.
  • Preference for candidates with CAD software experience.
  • Preference for candidates with management experience, particularly in overseeing quality inspectors and specialists.
  • Knowledge of SMC-S-016 standards is a plus.
  • Understanding of NASA workmanship requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with NDE techniques for metallics is advantageous.
