Massage Therapist | BeLoved Hospice

Position Overview

The massage therapist collaborates with hospice patients, providing gentle and therapeutic touch while they remain clothed, whether in their beds or chairs. This role focuses on alleviating pain and discomfort through a personalized care plan tailored to each patient's needs.

The massage therapist creates a serene atmosphere using aromatherapy, calming music, and a soothing voice to enhance the patient’s experience. This position aligns with the philosophy and objectives of the hospice program and operates under the general oversight of the Director of Nursing and the interdisciplinary team.

Accountability

This role reports directly to the Director of Complimentary Therapies.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Understand and uphold the agency's mission, philosophy, and service scope.
  • Respect patient rights and maintain confidentiality and safety, including reporting any abuse or neglect.
  • Foster effective relationships with co-workers, patients, families, caregivers, and community professionals.
  • Demonstrate reliability by maintaining punctuality and notifying of any absences.
  • Exhibit problem-solving skills by assessing situations and implementing timely solutions.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with employees, patients, families, and community members.
  • Manage time effectively to maximize productivity and meet deadlines.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives as required.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team.
  • Promote teamwork through cooperation, respect, flexibility, and dependability.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Engage in ongoing personal development and continuing education.
  • Represent the company positively in the community to create new referral opportunities.

Specific Duties:

  • Implement individualized care plans established by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Report any changes in patient condition to the RN Case Manager.
  • Document patient responses to treatments in electronic medical records.
  • Provide emotional support and facilitate communication among patients, families, and the hospice team.
  • Conduct assessments and establish treatment goals for massage therapy.
  • Deliver massage therapy interventions to alleviate symptoms such as anxiety, pain, and muscle tension.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on the benefits of massage therapy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical and Safety Requirements:

Participate in emergency procedures and operate equipment safely. Must be able to move throughout the workday and possess the strength and endurance for extended periods of sitting.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates must:

  • Hold a current license as a Massage Therapist from the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists.
  • Preferably have two years of experience with training in various modalities.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Possess reliable transportation and maintain auto insurance.
  • Complete a background check as required.
  • Handle emotionally charged situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
