Crisis Intervention Specialist

Job Summary

Maintain a safe and supportive environment for survivors residing in the shelter. Provide information and intervention for individuals on the hotline and survivors residing in shelter using the Trauma-Informed Care model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Confidential Services: Provides confidential services to survivors, including answering the 24-hour hotline, advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals, safety planning, and follow-ups.
  • Shelter Operations: Assists with day-to-day operations, including providing shelter coverage, maintaining the health and safety of everyone in the shelter, transporting survivors when needed, and facilitating problem-solving of in-house conflicts.
  • Donation Management: Sorts and organizes all incoming donations, updates the donation inventory spreadsheet, and identifies needs to the Shelter Manager.
  • Supply Management: Stocks supplies on each floor.
  • Intake Preparation: Prepares shelter intake baskets and household baskets.
  • Referral Services: Refers survivors to other agencies and resources, works directly with other agencies to secure services on behalf of survivors and their children.
  • Case Management: Assists Shelter Case Managers in providing supplemental supportive services to survivors based on their individualized goal plans.
  • Professional Development: Attends appropriate trainings, workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance professional development and understanding of issues in the fields of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
  • Documentation: Completes documentation in a timely manner in accordance with the policies and procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Works cooperatively with other staff members, interns, and volunteers to ensure best practices in service delivery.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience working with survivors of trauma preferred.
  • Certifications: Certification of CPR, First Aid, AED, and Narcan preferred.
  • Driver's License: Must be able to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Criminal Background Check: Must be able to meet agency requirements for a criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).
