About the Role

Tetra Tech is seeking a highly skilled Social Scientist to support large-scale federal and state projects throughout the United States. This role will involve conducting socioeconomic and environmental justice impact analysis, as well as supporting National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state-level environmental permitting projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct socioeconomic and environmental justice impact analysis for large-scale federal and state projects.
  • Support NEPA and state-level environmental permitting projects, with a focus on socioeconomic and environmental justice impact analysis.
  • Develop and implement complex projects in a dynamic work environment, utilizing strong critical thinking skills and a flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other team members to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Prepare and present written and oral reports, as well as participate in public meetings and hearings.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in economics, land use planning, or a similar discipline.
  • 3 to 8 years of relevant work experience, with a focus on socioeconomic and environmental justice analysis.
  • Experience working with NEPA under various federal agencies, such as the USDA Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and Bonneville Power Administration.
  • Experience completing socioeconomic studies to support NEPA and state permitting requirements.
  • Familiarity with input-output modeling (e.g., IMPLAN, RIMS II) and experience preparing economic and fiscal impact studies.
  • Experience preparing Environmental Justice analyses, including familiarity with federal and state guidance and online tools (e.g., EJSCREEN, CEJST).
  • Experience working with public data sources (e.g., U.S. Census, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, QCEW data, USDA agricultural statistics).
  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members across other offices in the United States.
  • Applied experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
