Note:
This position is part of a union with a fixed pay rate and hourly increments based on licensing.


This role encompasses proficient maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment within the Public Works Department, along with the management of the Town garage.

The technician operates under the general oversight of the Superintendent and Highway Division Foreman, enjoying considerable independence in making decisions related to vehicle maintenance and repairs.


Responsibilities:
1. Conduct skilled repairs and maintenance on both gasoline and diesel engines, including overhauls, brake and suspension work, electrical system repairs, and clutch replacements.

2. Implement and document a preventive maintenance program, maintaining detailed records of all work performed on vehicles and equipment.

3. Repair power tools and equipment such as compressors, jackhammers, and mowers.

4. Manage parts inventory, prepare and maintain repair records, and assist in formulating vehicle specifications.

5. Operate vehicles for snow removal and sanding during winter, as well as perform emergency highway operations as necessary.

6. Ensure adherence to safe practices in vehicle servicing, maintain a daily log of activities, and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System.
