Position Title: Optometrist

Reports To:
Medical Director / Practice Manager

Compensation:
$72.62 per hour

Work Schedule:
1-2 days per week, weekdays only, no evenings, weekends, or on-call. Classified as per diem, ineligible for benefits.

Position Overview:

The Optometrist is responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations and performing various assessments to evaluate visual acuity and identify potential ocular diseases and abnormalities. This role involves prescribing corrective lenses and other vision aids to enhance or preserve visual function.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver primary vision care by examining patients' eyes and conducting tests to diagnose vision impairments and ocular conditions.
  • Assess depth and color perception of patients.
  • Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and necessary medications.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing ocular surgeries.
  • Advocate for eye health through patient education and counseling.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for each patient served.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a four-year program at an accredited optometry school.
  • Current and active professional license registration in New York State.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Preferred: One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, and assist patients as needed.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Regular exposure to clinical environments, including infectious diseases and clinical odors.
  • Proficient in reading digital displays, recognizing colors, and operating essential medical equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
