Entomologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Entomologist to join our team at the City of New Orleans, LA. As an Entomologist, you will be responsible for detecting and surveilling pests, leading to identification, eradication, and/or management of pests. You will also assist in training staff, direct the work of seasonal laboratory aides, participate in community education events and presentations, produce and/or review public information materials, test birds, mosquitoes, and ticks for disease, and schedule surveys and studies to effectively cover assigned duties.

• Conduct detection and surveillance of pests to identify and manage pest populations
• Assist in training staff on entomology-related topics
• Direct the work of seasonal laboratory aides
• Participate in community education events and presentations
• Produce and/or review public information materials
• Test birds, mosquitoes, and ticks for disease
• Schedule surveys and studies to effectively cover assigned duties

• Bachelor's Degree in Entomology, Biology, or Chemistry from an accredited college or university
• Five (5) years of professional experience in the field of entomology or urban pest management
• OR Bachelor's Degree in any area from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional experience in the field of entomology or urban pest management
• OR Master's of Science Degree in Entomology, Biology, or Public Health with at least fifteen (15) semester hours of entomology and/or mammalogy courses from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of professional experience in the field of entomology or urban pest management
• OR Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
