Overview

POSITION SUMMARY
This role involves engaging in project-related activities aimed at enhancing the operations of the Center for Injury Biomechanics (CIB). The incumbent will formulate optimal practices surrounding process innovation and will assist in engineering and manufacturing efforts to propel biomechanics technologies forward.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required, along with two years of experience in biomechanics research; or, a comparable mix of education and experience in an engineering domain.

A Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
- Proficient in high-rate finite element analysis simulations, with extensive pre- and post-processing skills
- Familiarity with high-performance computing clusters
- Advanced capabilities in CAD modeling
- Strong team collaboration skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a highly specialized role that encompasses all facets of biomechanics research pertinent to the core objectives of the Wake Forest Center for Injury Biomechanics.

The position involves supervising junior engineers and students at the CIB on engineering and simulation-related assignments.


- Utilize finite element analysis (FEA) tools and associated software to support externally funded research initiatives and to generate preliminary data for new studies.

- Pre-process FEA simulations using software such as Hyperworks, LS-Pre Post, and True-grid.

- Experience with high-performance computational clusters is essential.

- Analyze FEA simulation outcomes using software like Hyperworks or LS-Pre Post.

- Conduct segmentation and other quantitative analyses on medical imaging data, including CT and MRI scans.

- Assist in laboratory experiments and data collection, including external anthropometry and rapid prototyping studies.

- Contribute to the CIB's graduate student training efforts through occasional lectures on CAD, FEA, and simulation topics.

- Collaborate with sponsors, colleagues, and partners at national and international conferences, and participate in regular project update meetings.

- Aid in the preparation of technical reports and scholarly manuscripts.
