Job Summary

This position plays a vital role in the healthcare team, working closely with faculty and staff to provide comprehensive care to patients with varying levels of acuity. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for initiating appropriate care for individuals with serious mental illness in an in-patient state hospital. Your duties will include primary care responsibilities, such as ordering routine healthcare screenings, addressing acute issues, and providing psychiatric mental health care as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide primary care duties, including ordering routine healthcare screenings and addressing acute issues such as urinary tract infections and respiratory tract infections.
  • Conduct routine assessments on developmentally disabled individuals, including annual medical assessments, violence and victimization assessments, suicide risk assessments, and clinical risk assessments.
  • Assist with outpatient community clinical assistance, including medical management for gynecology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, urology, neurology/seizure clinic, and radiology for mammogram screening.
  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Grand Rounds.
  • Chart patient information accurately and efficiently.
  • Prescribe medications for acute and chronic illness in accordance with the GA Nurse Practice Act.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. You must also be an Active Advanced Practice Registered Nursing Licensure in Georgia and have current certification to practice as a Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner through approval by the Georgia Nursing Board. Additionally, you must be qualified to obtain prescriptive authority in the State of Georgia and have the ability to meet requirements for hospital medical staff credentialing. Two years' experience in professional nursing is also required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position requires the ability to speak clearly and directly, understand directions clearly, and formulate diagnoses based on examination and interpretation of test results. You must also be able to identify deviations from the norms and intervene or make appropriate referrals. Current American Heart Association BLS certification is also required.

Shift, Salary, and Benefits

This is a full-time position with a pay band of 16. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees, including health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
