We are seeking a skilled Metadata Specialist to join our team for a long-term contract role in Bowie, MD. This exciting opportunity allows an experienced professional with a passion for digitization and archival practices to make a significant impact on a substantial project.
About the Role:
- Conduct thorough item-level inventory of assets.
- Evaluate duplicate or versioned materials and recommend optimal selections for digitization.
- Label and prepare items for shipping to the digitization vendor.
- Oversee the return process, receiving items back from the vendor and returning them to internal storage.
- Closely monitor quality control and assurance on digital files according to established procedures.
- Create accurate descriptive records in ArchivesSpace, including collection-level and item-level descriptions.
- Develop Archival Objects and associated Digital Objects in ArchivesSpace, based on inventory data and digitized metadata.
- Address issues related to legacy digital files and descriptions.
- Ensure all descriptions adhere to current archival standards.
Requirements:
- Must possess a 4-year degree.
- Able to physically lift and carry 30-pound boxes, as well as climb stairs when necessary.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and adept at problem-solving.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and basic database functions.
- Familiarity with archival principles and practices.
- Understanding or experience with audiovisual formats or production processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ArchivesSpace or a similar archival management tool.
- Digitization expertise.
Compensation:
$23.0 per hour, full-time or part-time opportunities available.
