About Us:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for individuals of all ages in Chesterfield County.
We are currently in search of a full-time Practical Nursing Specialist to deliver essential medical care to patients while assessing their overall health as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
Essential Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited practical nursing program. Must hold a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient understanding of practical nursing principles and practices; familiarity with medical terminology.
Ability to implement basic nursing techniques; accurately document patient information; adhere to verbal and written instructions; comply with established policies and procedures; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficiently use a personal computer and relevant software; engage with diverse individuals from various backgrounds and age groups; and foster positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
A current valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.
According to the Virginia DMV point system, the driving record must not show six or more demerit points within the last twenty-four months, nor any major violations of six demerit points within the last thirty-six months.
Out-of-state driving records must be acquired by the applicant and presented during the interview. These records should reflect a minimum of three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview.
Pre-employment drug screening, FBI criminal background checks, and verification of education/degrees are required.
This role is classified as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and documenting vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration rate);
- Observing, recording, and reporting symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient conditions;
- Assisting in the transportation of individuals to medical appointments;
- Preparing and administering prescribed medications, treatments, and therapies;
- Managing inventory, ordering, and stocking medications and medical supplies;
- Educating staff, families, and patients on routine care and preventive measures;
- Maintaining accurate medical charts and records;
- Scheduling patient appointments; and
- Performing additional duties as required.
Work Schedule:
Shift A:
Saturday; 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.; Tuesday - Thursday; 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.; Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Shift B:
Sunday, Monday, Thursday & Friday; 9:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
