Position Overview
The Madison office of SmithGroup is seeking a Lead Landscape Architect to enhance our design capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Lead Landscape Architect, you will:

  • Oversee the creation of landscape architectural drawings throughout all project phases, including proposals, concepts, schematics, design documents, cost estimates, and construction documentation.
  • Establish and articulate the design vision for projects.
  • Guide team members in applying landscape architectural standards and practices.
  • Steer design initiatives through all project stages, collaborating with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of team members' projects.
  • Proactively identify and address potential challenges related to agency approvals.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and clients during the construction phase of complex projects.
  • Consult with product manufacturers to assess and select appropriate construction materials.
  • Determine the content of design presentations for client representatives and design review committees, and deliver these presentations.
  • Facilitate design workshops, visioning sessions, outreach activities, and public forums.
  • Engage in marketing initiatives, including proposal development, interviews, and presentations, which encompass proposal writing and scope and fee negotiations.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to performance coaching.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
  • LEED AP certification is preferred; Landscape Architectural registration is required.
