Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively greet guests warmly and provide a pleasant and comfortable dining experience at the pace dictated by the guests.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of menu items, basic ingredients, and preparation methods to describe selection options and answer guest questions.
  • Offer recommendations and basic knowledge of wine pairings to enhance the dining experience.
  • Communicate effectively with culinary staff, host/hostess, and restaurant manager to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Engage guests with a pleasant greeting, explain specials, and take drink and food orders in accordance with Ocean House dining service standards.
  • Timely and accurately input guest orders into the system to ensure the kitchen can prepare orders efficiently.
  • Deliver food and drinks to tables in a comfortable and pleasant manner.
  • Evaluate the dining status of guests to ensure proper timing of clearing used china, glass, and silver and service of following courses.
  • Assist the busser in clearing used items as necessary to maintain a smooth pace of service.
  • Present the final check in a pleasant and friendly manner, with instructions on how the check will be handled.
  • Provide a warm farewell and invite guests to return again soon.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Complete required reports and paperwork, including closing out registers after each shift as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain room number and credit card information control and confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Prior hotel or equivalent guest service experience is preferred.
  • Food server experience is required, preferably in a fine dining food and beverage environment.
  • Exceptional ability to engage in friendly, polite conversation, even if the guest becomes upset.
  • Must speak clearly and understandably and write legibly.

Physical Requirements:

  • The position will be primarily performed standing and requires constant walking, carrying, and lifting up to 30 pounds or more.
  • Requires use of computer equipment.
  • Must possess strong mathematical skills.
