Marcum LLP is seeking a highly experienced Tax Director to join our growing and well-established national firm in Costa Mesa. This position requires a seasoned Tax Real Estate/Construction professional with strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
Key Responsibilities- Apply technical skills to perform effective reviews of all types of tax returns, ensuring relevant issues are identified and resolved, and returns are complete and ready for Partner review.
- Handle compliance engagements, from scheduling to managing staff, and perform research and draft memoranda on real estate and construction-related issues.
- Train and supervise staff, review and evaluate their work, and make suggestions to improve efficiencies within the department and on engagements.
- Interact closely with clients to provide innovative individual and corporate tax planning, consulting, and compliance services in a timely and effective manner.
- Provide proper representation with taxing authorities for clients under federal or state examination, and supervise, develop, train, and mentor staff, including performance and engagement reviews.
- Be involved in practice development efforts of the firm, provide on-the-job training to subordinates, and assist Partners with preparation of engagement budgets.
- Review staff work product and ensure firm processes and quality control procedures are being executed, and work closely with Partners, Senior Managers, Managers, and staff on client management, professional development, and business development activities.
- Masters in Taxation is preferred, and a CPA license is required.
- 7 or more years of Public Accounting Experience with a Real Estate or Construction emphasis, and good communication skills (both verbal and writing skills) and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, Managers, and Partners.
- Good judgment and the ability to work independently, and a strong work ethic, willing to roll up sleeves and work attitude.
- Possess strong writing skills for responding to problem resolutions for tax notices, and the ability to both review engagements and manage multiple clients.
- Knowledge of S Corporation, partnership, and individual taxation is a plus, and knowledge of CCH Axcess, GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx Engagement is a plus.
