Job Summary

UofL Health is seeking a highly skilled Sports Medicine Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our clinical team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to athletes and patients in our hospital and clinic setting.

Responsibilities
  • Intake and Assessment: Assist with the intake of patients, including medical history, physical exams, and preparation of imaging and other requirements. Communicate results to physicians and provide clear guidance to patients.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other healthcare providers to evaluate patient physical conditions and develop treatment plans. Provide expert advice on return-to-play considerations for athletes.
  • Community Engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with local high schools, colleges, and athletic organizations to promote our services and support the health and well-being of athletes.
  • Patient Education and Support: Provide discharge instructions, participate in home exercise programs, schedule follow-up visits, and make referrals to other healthcare providers as prescribed by the treating physician.
  • Operational Support: Assist in the operating room within the scope of practice of an OTC/OTC-SC and assist with the fitting of durable medical goods and applying casts as needed.
  • Professional Development: Maintain clinical competence by attending continuing education classes each year and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or a related field required. Athletic training license from the Board of Certification Athletic Training Certification (BOC) required. Orthopedic Technologist certification required. Post-graduate Athletic Training Residency Program preferred.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of athletic training experience required.
