Operating Room Specialist

Overview:
The Operating Room Specialist plays a crucial role within the surgical team, offering essential support to surgeons and fellow team members throughout various surgical interventions.
This position involves active participation in the preparation and execution of intricate surgical procedures, working under the general guidance of the surgical team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Efficiently establishes a sterile environment, ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are ready for each operation, including advanced tools such as laparoscopic devices, microscopes, and surgical lasers.
- Organizes and maintains complex sterile setups, ensuring the operative area is properly draped and prepared.- Collaborates with surgical professionals to plan each procedure, confirming that all required supplies and equipment are available prior to the start of the operation.
Proactive Engagement:
- Observes and responds promptly to each phase of the surgical process, anticipating the surgeon's needs while maintaining focus for extended durations.
- Vigilantly monitors the maintenance of aseptic techniques and ensures a safe environment for surgical patients.
- Adheres to Standard Precautions and follows all infection control protocols when managing specimens, supplies, and equipment.
Work Schedule:
Multiple positions available.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly assists in lifting and positioning patients, requiring prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching to facilitate easy access to instruments for the surgical team.
- Must demonstrate dexterity in passing instruments to surgeons while upholding aseptic principles.
- Appropriate surgical attire is mandatory, including sterile gowns, gloves, caps, eye protection, and masks to maintain a sterile environment.
- May require special attire for specific procedures, including protective gear for high-risk situations.
Qualifications:
- To qualify, applicants must meet all specified requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
- Specialized experience is required for positions at GS-4 and above, involving support duties to medical personnel.
- Minimum qualifications include one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level or a relevant bachelor's degree.
Specialized Experience:
- Experience in assisting with basic surgical procedures, operating equipment, and understanding protocols for specimen handling.
- Ability to assist in training staff on equipment operation and provide patient transportation to and from the surgical area.
