Position Overview
The Senior GL Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of GL account balances and coding in compliance with GAAP. This position involves enhancing system and process controls, preparing necessary reports, assisting with external audit preparations, and serving as a vital resource for the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the month-end closing process, including journal entries and account reconciliations, while applying GAAP principles to ensure accurate GL reporting.
- Prepare journal entries with the correct company code, GL account, department, location, and project cost coding, supported by appropriate documentation.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in critical accounting areas such as cash reconciliation, intercompany accounting, and system testing.
- Conduct balance sheet account reconciliations, focusing on high-risk and critical accounts.
- Analyze month-end financials to verify accurate coding by accounting staff and document any account variations from previous months.
- Perform flux reviews of financials prior to month-end close and assist team members with analysis.
- Collaborate with other GL accountants on month-end review comments and investigate invoice and transaction treatments.
- Educate and enforce accounting policies and procedures across departments while providing necessary support.
- Liaise with related party companies on accounting matters and key responsibilities.
- Coordinate with corporate banking partners on banking issues.
- Undertake special accounting projects as assigned.
- Participate in regular evaluations of system and procedural efficiencies to ensure the integrity of financial statements.
- Execute additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP and accounting practices.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Experience with Oracle systems is preferred.
- Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Self-motivated and flexible, with a collaborative team spirit.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in public or private accounting.
Work Environment
This position is primarily remote, with occasional requirements to be onsite in a shared workspace.
