Job Description

CMI Group Aerospace & Defense is seeking a highly skilled Machinist 3 - Multi-Axis to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate 5-Axis multi-pallet machining centers and automated multi-axis mill turn machines.
  • Experience with Fanuc and Mazak controls is highly desirable.
  • Operate CNC machines with minimal supervision, running proven production and NPI jobs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with jobs running in the department.
  • Ability to set up any job, including NPI, and demonstrate proper setup techniques, loading, indicating, touch off, and tooling.
  • Ability to modify speeds and feeds to improve quality and cycle time reductions.
  • Mentor and train process operators on process operation and quality.
  • Daily machine maintenance, including checking fluid levels and cleaning out chips.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Complete understanding of CNC controls, including G & M program codes.
  • Tool management, including entering offsets to compensate for tool wear and replacement of worn and damaged tools.
  • Ability to read and understand B/P's, including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, and GD&T.
  • Proper use of basic inspection, measuring, and test equipment to verify machined dimensions of product.
  • In-process inspection of parts machined, recording inspection data at prescribed intervals.
  • Filling out MOT and job routers, maintaining correct part counts on the MOT.
  • Tagging hardware and recording discrepancies on proper paperwork.
  • Communicate job-related issues or questions to lead personnel for resolution or clarification.
  • Reporting machine collisions and malfunctions to lead personnel.
  • Adhering to company and industry safety standards and protocols.
  • Ability to work with Engineering and Programmers to prove out new CNC programs for first run introduction.
  • Understanding of advanced tooling and work holding.
  • Experience with automation, gantry loaders, or robotics is a plus.
  • A strong knowledge of materials and cutting conditions is desirable.

Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or trade school.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand for the majority of the work shift.

Working Conditions:

Material working with: 304L, Nitronic 60, Inconel 718, 6061, 7075, aermet 100, D2.

Tolerances: +/-.0003.

CNC Equipment: Mazak mills/lathes 3X/4X axis, Brother/Methods 3X/4X axis, Yasda mill turns 5X, Integrex mill turns 5X.

Controls Used: Fanuc/Fadal/Haas.
