Position Overview:

As a vital member of the surgical team, the Lead Surgical Technologist operates under direct supervision to provide comprehensive support before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role is essential in ensuring the effective maintenance and operation of surgical instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take on a leadership role by overseeing and coordinating the activities of other Surgical Technologists, ensuring that tasks are assigned and completed efficiently. Candidates should possess a minimum of two years of experience in surgical technology and demonstrate proficiency in complex surgical techniques.
  • Manage the setup of surgical equipment, ensuring that all instruments and supplies are organized and sterile prior to procedures. This includes checking the functionality and cleanliness of all equipment.
  • Assist in positioning patients on the operating table and ensure proper hygiene practices are followed, including scrubbing and donning protective gear.
  • Support the surgical team by providing instruments and supplies during operations, maintaining a sterile environment, and adhering to hospital policies regarding counts of surgical materials.
  • Contribute to patient safety initiatives and promote high standards of care throughout the surgical process.
  • Facilitate the cleaning and turnover of operating rooms, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for subsequent procedures.
  • Oversee the sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Advise management on the procurement of new equipment and supplies, contributing to the operational efficiency of the surgical department.
  • Prepare case carts with necessary supplies and instruments, ensuring readiness for surgical procedures.
  • Perform additional related duties as required, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in an acute care operating room setting.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Certification from the Association of Operating Room Technicians is preferred for those seeking to qualify as Senior Surgical Technologists.
  • Extensive experience in various surgical specialties, including minimally invasive techniques, orthopedics, and neuro surgery.
  • Willingness to engage in training and mentoring of nursing staff and other team members.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present information in various settings.
  • Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
  • Commitment to working within a collaborative Labor Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Surgical Technology is highly desirable.
  • Experience with advanced surgical equipment is a plus.
