Job Summary

We are seeking highly skilled Inertial Confinement Fusion Physicists to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a key member of our research team, you will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for achieving thermonuclear ignition on the National Ignition Facility (NIF).

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and Analyze NIF Laser Experiments: Utilize large computer codes and analytic modeling to support the effort to achieve ignition on NIF.
  • Perform Computational and Theoretical Analyses: Extrapolate current understanding of ignition-related physics to NIF and beyond.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Work closely with laser experimentalists, scientists, engineers, and theorists to advance ICF project activities.
  • Present Research Results: Share findings in scientific meetings, peer reviews, and publications.
  • Support Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives: Promote and support plans to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
Requirements
  • PhD in Physics or Related Field: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of Plasma Physics: Hydrodynamics, astrophysics, or related field.
  • Experience in Computational Modeling: Complex systems, including large two and three-dimensional computer codes.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Written and verbal communication, with a record of publications, invited papers, or teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Knowledge of Physics: Plasma physics, hydrodynamics, astrophysics, or related field.
  • Leadership Experience: Multidisciplinary teams, with a demonstrated record of completing and/or leading top-quality research.
